Qualifying Criteria

  • High Schools will have 8 Leagues of which athletes have to run 6 excluding the zonal championship. All athletes must run in the zonal championship to qualify for the zonal teams.
  • Athletes will be allowed to run in other zones/districts as long as they report to the organizer on the day of the race and that the athlete has a good reason for not running in his/her zone/district.  This cross zonal/district running must take place before the sub/zonal championship .  Athletes will only be allow to run in 2 of these cross zonal/district leagues meetings.
  • Athletes must run in their school running gear. If not,  in white. No tracksuits or any other clothing.
  • Athletes must only run in her/his age groups [As from League 1] . Athletes will not be allowed to run in higher age group. [ 2009 – 10yrs, 2008 – 11yrs, 2007-12yrs, 2006-13yrs, 2005-14yrs, 2004-15yrs, 2003-16yrs, 2002-17yrs, 2000/18-19yrs]
  • Only zonal teams will be allowed to compete at the WP Champs.
  • At the WP Champs however only the following age groups boys/girls will be catered for       [ 10, 11, 12, 13 , 14 , 15 , 16 , 17 , 19 ]
  • The first 20 athletes at the Zonal Championship will compete at the combined WPA/Schools Championship.  At this Championship, 6 athletes per age group will be selected to represent the WP Schools Cross Country at the Western Cape Championship.
  • No doctor certificate or letter will be allowed for any leagues or champs.
  • If an athlete starts and do not finish [dropped out during any race] that race won’t count as a league.
  • Birth Certificates and ID documentation must be police certified with a photo ID size.  No computer generated ID’s or photos will be allowed. This documentation must be available on the day of the zonal championship. If not, the athlete will not be invited to the Trials / WPA Championship. [No photos older then 5 years]
